Books on Electronics

Are you interested in learning electronics? I have been learning electronics since I was 9 years old. Along the way, I have picked up many books, and I can tell you which ones were worth my time. You can spend many hours at the library looking for a book that contains the information you want. Or you can buy the books that meet my approval!

Forrest Mims Engineer's Notebook

These notes are presented in a fashion that is easy to read and understand. Forrest Mims' designs are simple enough that you can get all your parts at your local electronics supply store, such as Radio Shack. I have a collection of this author's mini notebooks, and they were a great asset in my electronics education.

VOM & DVM Multitesters

One of the first things you should learn in electronics is measurement. This book covers the use of simple test equipment that are key to understanding what is happening in electronic circuits. This covers both analog meters and digital multitesters. Get a copy. Knowledge really isn't expensive. Ignorance is.

Basic Digital Electronics

If you want to include digital eletronics in your circuit designs, you need this book. Actually, you're crazy not to include digital electronics in your library of knowledge. These days almost everything contains digital electronics. Here are the basics. You will learn boolean arithmetic, the binary system, gates, memory and more.

Power Supplies: Projects for the Hobbyist and Technician

Before you get very far along in experimenting with electronics, you are going to graduate from those little square 9-volt batteries to something that delivers more power to your projects. This book gives you a definite advantage if you plan to power your projects on AC. This book covers regulation, filtering, and more.

Using the Oscilloscope

There's something that neither an analog or a digital voltmeter will tell you. That's the time factor involved in electronic measurements. Oscilloscopes plot waveforms in an electric current against time. They also can measure things like the frequency response of amplifiers. This is very useful to ham radio operators in troubleshooting their equipment.

Troubleshooting with Your Triggered-Sweep Oscilloscope

Now you know how to use an oscilloscope. But you've discovered that fine tuning your scope to view a certain event in an electronic signal isn't that easy. You need this book. It covers the details of zooming in on particular parts of the signal. It was fascinating to see waveforms on your scope at first, now it's frustrating because you need to see a certain PART of the signal...buy this book.

Oscilloscopes: Selecting and Restoring a Classic

Excellent brain fodder for those of you interested in restoring old electronics! Old oscilloscopes give a sense of pride to any workbench. They could also give your wallet a sense of fatness if you could locate and restore these gems to original working condition. Well, here are the details.
